The Horses of Kings Workshop 2017

Baja Mexico: April 7 - 10, 2017

Photo by Tamara GoochWe are going south of the border to beautiful Puerto Nuevo in Baja Mexico again this year for this all inclusive workshop, where our focus will be the PRE/Andalusian horses of Yuguada Ernesto Jimenez. The ranch is located on a hillside sitting above the beautiful coast line with over 40 mares, foals and stallions at our disposal.

Wild Mustang Photo Safari in Northern California
Elk Creek, CA: May 4 - 7, 2017

Photo by Tara ArrowoodPlease join us for our annual spring photography safari, observing and forever capturing the essence of MCR's iconic wild horses and its majestic landscape. The workshop will take place at MCR's 2000 acre wild horse sanctuary and wildlife preserve located near Elk Creek, nestled in the hills of Northern CA. Over 200 stunning mustangs run free in a landscape of long valleys, rolling hills of chaparral, steep ridges dotted with digger pines embraced by the Spring light. This four-day workshop will include guided tours of this beautiful ranch by MCR founder Ellie Phipps Price and photographer Tara Arrowood. The workshop will cover the entire creative process from observing light, shooting, editing and post production workflow.

Wild Mustangs of the Adobe Valley
Near Bishop, CA: May 12th - 15th, 2017

Track and photograph wild horses on foot and horseback through a stunningly picturesque setting! Join Ken Lee for four exciting days this spring as we hike and ride through the seldom visited Adobe Valley seeking opportunities to observe and photograph the wild mustangs that call this rugged territory home. Situated between the snow-clad slopes of two major mountain ranges and blessed with a thriving equine population, the Adobe Valley is rich with opportunities to make memorable wildlife and landscape images.

Our skilled tracker/guides will help us find the horses and educate us on the natural history of these icons of the American West. Ken uses a combination of lectures, demonstrations and individual in-the-field coaching to help you build your arsenal of technical and creative skills for successful wildlife and nature photography. This workshop is a co-production of The Art of Seeing Photography Adventures and Rock Creek Pack Station.

High Sierra on Horseback

Elevate your photography in the John Muir Wilderness! Let the horses do the heavy lifting. Follow in the footsteps of Ansel Adams and John Muir on this unique equine-based photography workshop. Experience 5 days of intensive photography education in the heart of the spectacular Sierra Nevada. Our destination is truly a photographer's paradise, but not easy to access. Fortunately, we will have our four legged friends to help us haul the gear as we ride through this magnificent alpine environment.

Therefore, our days will start early and end late but there will also be time to explore or just soak in your surroundings and appreciate the quiet magnificence of true wilderness. Your level of photography experience is not as important as your desire to advance your image making abilities.

Ken Lee will serve as your photography instructor for this unique adventure offered by Rock Creek Pack Station. RCPS' veteran guides are equipped with expert knowledge of the natural history of the Sierra as well the ability to wrangle up some amazing mountain meals.

The workshop is a unique opportunity for amateur or professional photographers, and artists who want to raise the standards of their photography skills by working with one of the most notable equine photographers worldwide.
