Ocala Photographers Meet-up
Photographers from around the country met up in beautiful Ocala, Florida in March to take in all the area's horse activity. Photographers were able to opt-in to whatever shoots they were interested in attending, leaving time for them to explore the area on their own. We would like to express our appreciation to the following farms for their hospitality and sharing their beautiful horses with us: Gypsy Gold Gypsy Vanners, Big Rock Equestrian Center, Camelot Andalusians, Carriage House Farm, VJ Arabians, Silver Springs Stables, Pleasant Acres Thoroughbreds, Casey Moore Cutting Horses and Beauty's Rescue. Plans are underway for our next meet up in Kentucky next spring!
from our members
In late April we once again met in northwest Colorado for our annual Colorado Cowboys Workshop and the Great American Horse Drive. As always we were treated to epic shoots of herd drives, water crossings and so much more!
First time attendee Pam Gabriel came from Minnesota and shared these thoughts: "I have been waiting and dreaming of signing up for the Sombrero workshop and Horse Drive for years!! Finally, 2015 was my time and it surpassed all of my expectations in so many ways! First of all, the people were so friendly . . . from the other photographers to the wranglers on the ranch . . . I feel like I left the week with many new lifelong friends. We had a lot of laughs, worked and played hard together, and left with so many awesome memories. Secondly, the ranch . . . what a great place! It provided us with so many unique shooting setups. Nothing was ever boring and there were always multiple ways to shoot the scenes to allow creativity so you weren't forced to get the same shots as the person next to you. Next, our fearless leaders . . . Sherron and her Photoshop talents are simply amazing! She fed us a lot of information and provided handouts to take with us so we can practice at home. She was so helpful during her sessions and it was time well spent. And Scott, the way he had our week planned out . . . incredible! He was constantly reassessing his agenda based on weather and light so we would have the best shooting opportunities possible. The way he coordinated everything with the wranglers was awesome which gave us such a varied portfolio to bring back home. The whole process was easy with great communication and a sense of belonging to something really special . . . which it was! Thank you to the three of you!!!"

And from Jo Arlow, coming for the first time from Washington: "As a relative newcomer to the world of horses and equestrian photography, I couldn't have made a better choice than to attend the Sombrero workshop. I was looking for an adventurous experience and a chance to get more comfortable around horses and to expand my equestrian portfolio. Every aspect of my time at the workshop in Craig exceeded expectations. I found it transformative on both a personal and professional level. There were so many opportunities to get unique, stunning and classic western and equestrian imagery. The sheer emotional and physical experience of being amongst so many horses on the drive and being so intimate with them is unforgettable. And of course, the people who attended with me and the leaders of the workshop made it a complete experience that I will always carry with me. The entire week was efficiently organized and adapted to ensure the best possible photo opportunities. Photographic expertise was shared freely. Not to mention that is was just a really fun group! And many thanks to all of the wranglers who were so patient and such great models. Already marking my calendar for next year."
