Changing Leads Equine Rescue is a 501c3 organization located in Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to educating horse owners and equine enthusiasts and rescuing abused, neglected and abandoned horses. The rescue provides a safe and peaceful environment where children and families can experience the pleasure of equine activities while at the same time gaining knowledge about the responsibility of maintaining and caring for a horse during the rehabilitative process with each rescued horse. Our adoptive network service enables us to unite each rescued horse with a qualified adoptive family to continue providing the care, love and support needed to complete the healing for each horse.

Currently, Changing Leads is home to six rescues including three rescues who came to our barn in August 2011. These horses came from an overcrowding situation in which mares and stallions were left together, which ultimately resulted in overpopulation and a scarcity of food.

This is Romeo on the day he arrived at Changing Leads.

Romeo now, only four months later. He is making so much progress, both in terms of putting on weight and experiencing new situations like his first farrier visit and regular vet care, not to mention simple things like becoming comfortable with the sound of the Velcro on his fly mask. Romeo is a Tennessee Walker cross, born 9/4/07. He was also gelded after he reached a healthy weight, as our rescue advocates castration.

Romeo arrived at our rescue with Bella, also a Tennessee Walker cross, about six years. These are photos of Bella now and she has made amazing strides in terms of coming out of her shell and letting her personality shine through. She is a friendly, laid-back mare and has adapted wonderfully to barn and pasture life with our other rescues.

This Rosie, Bella's sweet, seven-month-old filly. Outgoing and friendly, Rosie has quickly become a favorite with both our volunteers and visitors!

Romeo, Bella and Rosie are all available for adoption with adoption fees of $500 each, pending approval from Changing Leads. To learn more about our rescue or to make a donation, please visit http://changingleadsequinerescue.org.
