Hi there!!

I am Deanne, I'm 24 and am based in Hertfordshire. I am new to the photography world but am LOVING it! I recently bought a Nikon D40 and have even more recently accesorized it with a Sigma 70-300mm lens.
I would love to hear your opinions on my most recent shot of my friends horses.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deanne,

Welcome to EPNet! The best place to post your images is to the General Member's Forum in Critique Corner in order to get the feedback you want.

Hi Deanne,

Welcome to the forums.

I like your 2nd photo. I would have cropped it a bit tighter (at least to get rid of the piece of tree trunk on the left) and maybe edited out the fence in the background. I think I'd add a tad bit more contrast too. But overall I like it. It tells a story. For me, it looks like a pony coming home for dinner after enjoying some playtime. :D

I don't care for the first photo. The back ground is distracting and it looks like a simple candid shot.

The third image is nice but you should be mindful of the fence line in the background. You'll want to try to keep it as level as possible.

The 4th is a nice photo too. Looks like you've captured playtime.

You mentioned that you are new to photography. In that case, I would say you are off to an excellent start. Looks like you have an eye for composition. You'll want to read your new cameras manual forward and backward...and then backward and forward to get the best out of it. Good luck! and, again, welcome!

Hello Deanne,

I am new to this forum but I am a professional artist who has used photography for many years. Your photos are wonderful! One thing I would keep in mind when shooting is to be aware of the frame. In the 3rd pic your horses hooves are cut off. A complete image would be better. Also try using your camera in the vertical position. I believe your last pic would look even better this way. If you have access to Photoshop or some other image editing program you might begin to crop images. You will find cropping these images makes them more powerful.

Hi. I am new here too. Just signed up. I have been painting animals for long time and taking pictures for many years for material. Now I am thinking about getting little more serious about photography because I love it so much and I seem to have more time for that than painting. Still working full time too.
I have been using old 35 mm canon with 300mm lens. I would love to buy digital for shooting horses and wildlife ( as soon as I sell my expensive saddle that doesn`t fit my horse ha ha). Any suggestions for good but not outrageously priced camera? Thanks. Anita

I really like the second one: pleasant light, lovely pony, good angle, cute expression.
